Being on the rainbow train isn’t always easy—that’s just how it is. Even with all the progress in civil rights and awareness over the years, we still live in a society built on outdated norms and expectations. The world is changing, but a lot of old beliefs still clash with the diversity and individuality the LGBTQ+ community represents.
Growing up in that kind of environment can take a real toll. It pushes a version of life that doesn’t fit who you are, and that pressure shows up everywhere—at school, at work, in social circles, and even at home.
I see it all the time. So many of my LGBTQ+ clients have struggled with feelings of not being enough, feeling ashamed, angry, or even depressed. A lot of them have tried therapy before, only to feel like their heteronormative therapist just "didn’t get it".
Sometimes, it’s because the therapist was uncomfortable talking about LGBTQ+ topics. And in the worst cases, there were subtle (or not-so-subtle) homophobic or transphobic attitudes.
The truth is, LGBTQ+ identities and experiences are complex, and not every therapist understands that.
But don't you worry. You are safe with me. 🏳️🌈😉
